Podcasts may be an ideal learning resource for time-poor IBMS members. Here we look at some of the most relevant.

Podcasts

Self-directed learning is becoming increasingly important for staying up to date with the latest research and news and developing knowledge for the wide range of IBMS exams.

While textbooks and journals are invaluable resources, there is also an array of podcasts available, covering everything from scientific and clinical updates, to broader discussions on the implications of the latest research.

Here is our guide to some of the most useful for biomedical scientists.

What are podcasts?

Free audio programmes distributed over the internet. You can stream or download them, essentially creating a radio station focused entirely on your interests.

How do I listen to them?

Any internet-connected computer can play podcasts, although they are most easily listened to on mobile devices, such as iphones and tablets.

How do I find podcasts?

There are a lot of podcast managers available online that you can use to listen to and subscribe to podcasts. Many will recommend podcasts that are the most relevant to you.

Nature Podcast

Features highlighted content from the week’s edition of Nature. This includes interviews with and commentary from the people behind the science. It also features analysis from journalists covering science and medical issues around the world.

Radiolab

An award-winning irreverent US podcast documentary series from Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich. Radiolab covers a different scientific topic each week and blends storytelling with scientific investigation, analysis and humour.
