International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day

IBMS staff and members marked International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day on 15 April.

IBMS staff and members marked International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day on 15 April.

The day is held annually to promote and acknowledge the role of biomedical professionals working in diagnostic and preventative healthcare organisations.

It is organised by the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science, which has 185,000 members globally, including IBMS Head of Education Alan Wainwright, who is on the Board of Directors.

This year’s theme was: “Antibiotic resistance: biomedical laboratory scientists respond to the global threat.”

WHO President Marie Nora Roald said: “Biomedical laboratory scientists are one of the largest groups of healthcare professionals, yet our role in medicine is poorly understood by the patients and their families and even our colleagues within healthcare administration.”
