The lab coat superstars

A round-up of just some of the highlights of this year’s Biomedical Science Day.

Biomedical scientists and laboratory staff united at the end of June to celebrate the annual Biomedical Science Day.

While there were very few lab tours and stands in hospital foyers, circumstances didn’t stop members from throwing themselves into the occasion online.

Biomedical Science Day was trending on social media and in the top 10 on Twitter from 7.30am, while more than a dozen MPs tweeted about the day.

The “lab-coat superstars” of biomedical science were praised by Lord Bethel who thanked the “often unseen” workforce and said it has been central to the UK’s response to COVID-19.

Former Health Secretary Matt Hancock, tweeted: “I want to pay tribute to all those working incredibly hard in biomedical sciences within the UK and especially in our fantastic NHS.” A range of other MPs, health bodies, organisations and government departments gave thanks and paid tribute to the profession.
