Trending – Biomedical Science Day

Biomedical Science Day was trending on social media yesterday and was in the top 10 on Twitter from 7.30am.

At one point, it was the fourth most popular topic on the platform and the hashtag #BiomedicalScienceDay2021 was seen by up to 12.4 million people.

More than a dozen MPs tweeted about biomedical science, while the I newspaper ran a story on the importance of the day and there was a shout-out on BBC Radio 2 by Sara Cox.

IBMS members spent the day involved in a wide range of activities to promote the profession and an online gallery of pictures from the day can be seen by clicking here.

Members gave virtual tours and posted content to highlight the vital role of the profession.

There were also activities, such as a biomedical science-themed bake-off and even an hour-long biomedical-themed online comedy show.   

Over the course of the day #BiomedicalScienceDay2021 was used in posts 3666 times on social media, with 45.6k accounts sharing the posts and 13.7k liking them. 

In total 59.6k people interacted with posts using the hashtag, giving a potential audience reach for all posts of 12.4 million.

#AtTheHeartOfHealthcare was used in posts 2754 times, with 42.3k accounts sharing the posts and 12.7k liking them. 

In total 55.2k people interacted with posts using the hashtag, giving a potential audience reach for all posts of 9.5 million.
