The Manchester IBMS branch held its AGM (pictured) on 8 November at Manchester Metropolitan University. 

It was attended by 51 delegates, the chairperson, secretary, treasurer and CPD officer. 

Chairperson, Michelle Brereton, reported that three members of the committee are retiring – Bill Gilmore, Doreen Shanks and Ellis Williams. 

She added that seven expressions of interest have been received for these posts.

The poster prize winner, Imtiaz Ali, was awarded a £50 cheque for his poster entitled “Immature platelet fraction as a marker in the indication of the aetiology of thrombocytopaenia”.

There were three 50-year membership medals announced: Neil Wilson, David Hamer and Roy Halliwell.

The main speaker for the evening was Angela Douglas MBE, lead at the North West Coast NHS Genomic Medicine Centre.

The centre is part of the government’s 100,000 genomes project, which aims to sequence the genomes of 100,000 patients with cancers and rare diseases by the end of 2017.
